Build

Engine Surround

On The ‘A’ Car, this Grille Element is a heating vent from an old Xerox machine the production team found and added some bits to it. I took my Metallic Gold Sharpie and added the same color to my part:

Step 1

Push the two pins of the Grille Element (81B) into the matching holes of the Grille Base (81D), as shown.

NOTE: The illustration in the printed instructions has these part numbers reversed.

Step 2

Push the six pins of the Grille into the matching holes of the Grille Base, trapping the Grille Element in between.

The shapes of the Grille and Grille Base are the same, but they are meant to be mounted opposite of each other, as shown:

Step 3

Fit this Grille assembly into these matching holes on the left side of the Engine Surround, as shown.

No glue or screws should be required here; it should be a tight fit and not fall out. However, on my build, this was not the case. I ended up using super glue on all of the pins from the underside of the Engine Surround to keep this in place.

Step 4

Fit the Blocks to the right side of the Engine Surround, as shown.

Fun Fact: On The ‘A’ Car, these were deep drawn aluminum cans from Zero Manufacturing:

Step 5

Secure the Blocks in place from below with two (2) AP screws:

Thoughts

Other than a quick mod, this was an easy issue to assemble.
