Left Side Rear Panel
Step 1
Retrieve the Left Side Rear Panel assembly from the previous issue. Insert the posts of the longer Trim (78G) into these holes of the Left Side Rear Panel assembly.
Make sure the angled edges of this Trim match the shape of the panel, as shown:
Step 2
Secure this Trim into place from inside the panel with two (2) AP screws:
Step 3
Insert the posts of the medium-length Trim (78H) into these holes, as shown:
Step 4
Secure this Trim into place from inside the panel with two (2) more AP screws:
Step 5
Insert the posts of the Red Lens into these holes, as shown.
This lens will not sit flush if inserted backwards, just make sure you have it in correctly:
Step 6
Secure the Red Lens into place from inside the panel with two (2) IP screws:
Step 7
Fit the post of the shortest Trim (78I) into this hole, as shown:
The post on this little Trim is keyed, so it will only fit flush the right way:
Step 8
Secure this final Trim into place from inside the panel with one (1) IP screw:
Step 9
These Brackets are all different and are marked with identification numbers, R1 and RL2 through RL5:
Insert the pin of Bracket RL5 (78F) into forward hole at this location on the Left Side Rear Panel assembly and align the screw hole:
Step 10
Secure this Bracket to the panel from the other side with one (1) AP screw.
For whatever reason, the AP screws supplied with this issue have a smaller cross-head, so I needed to use a PH00 screwdriver here:
Steps 11-12
Like before, insert the pins of Brackets RL2 (78C), RL3 (78D), and RL4 (78E) into the Left Side Rear Panel assembly and secure each one with one (1) AP screw.
I did each of these separately, so I will breakdown each one. First up is Bracket RL4 (78C):
Next up is Bracket RL3 (78D):
Finally, we install Bracket RL2 (78C):
Step 13
Insert the pin of the last Bracket R1 (78B) into this hole on the Vent and align the screw hole, as shown:
Secure this Bracket from behind with one (1) LP screw:
Step 14
Fit the Vent to this matching recess on the Left Side Rear Panel:
Step 15
Secure the Vent into place from behind the panel with two (2) AP screws:
Steps 16-17
Retrieve your DeLorean body assembly. Test fit this Left Side Rear Panel assembly onto the body, as shown:
NOTE: When you fit this, make sure these little tabs on the top edge go *UNDER* the Central Roof Panel. You may even have to temporarily loosen the rear screws holding the roof panel in place to slide this underneath:
When it is sitting flush, it should look like this at the roof line:
When you are satisfied with the fitment, I recommend removing the panel and pre-threading the four (4) DM screws from the next step into the matching posts using some 3-in-One Oil:. Then, you can remove the screws and re-fit the panel to the car.
Step 18
Turn the entire body assembly over and secure the Left Side Rear Panel to the body from the inside with four (4) DM screws.
First, let’s tape the panel in place so it won’t fall off:
Next, we can turn the car over (on a soft towel of course) and secure this panel at the rear:
Then, we can secure the front of the panel:
Thoughts
Well, we have the entire left side of the body panels installed now. Little by little, it is looking more like our beloved DeLorean!
