Making the First Railroad Wheel

Step 1

Look inside the Railroad Wheel and take note of this center hole, opposite the stamped ‘F’.

The ‘F’ shows that this is a FRONT Railroad Wheel. However, the next step in this issue is going to cover up this marking. The REAR wheels are different and I will explain how to tell the difference in Issue 150 even without being able to see this mark:

Steps 2-3

The Wheel Center has a pin that fits into the hole noted above. Place the Wheel Center inside the Railroad Wheel and secure it into place with two (2) AM screws as shown.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Since we still have to build three more of these wheels, I chose to put this wheel assembly back into the molded shipping plastic to protect it, and store the Wheel Nut and Washer in a spare screw bag:

Thoughts


The leftover Wheel Nut and Washer are not used until this wheel assembly is mounted, so store them safely until then.
